Project Manager - ERC project “Racial Socialism"
The position is offered within the framework of the research project “Racial Socialism: Racialization and Value in Socialist Red Cross Societies”, funded by the European Research Council (ERC), as a part of the Consolidator Grant (ID: 101231162) led by Čarna Brković. “Racial Socialism” examines humanitarian work in socialist countries to generate new perspectives on racialization.
Your tasks:
The Project Manager will assist the team leader (Čarna Brković) in the daily operations of the team. Responsibilities include the administrative, financial, and logistical management of the ERC project, as well as overseeing the team.
Key responsibilities:
- Providing the administrative, financial, and organizational support to facilitate scientific activities
- Preparation and compilatione of scientific and financial reports in coordination with the project leader
- Coordination between the project team and the university’s administrative departments
- Maintainance of the project website and communication channels based on input from researchers and in coordination with the project leader
- Organization of project meetings, workshops, seminars, and conferences
- Coordination of travel arrangements for team members (visa, booking, documentation) as well as visits of invited researchers to Mainz
- Supporting recruitment processes, including coordination of applications, interview scheduling, and communication with candidates
- Coordination of logistical and organizational tasks related to a public exhibition event
Your profile:
- preferably vocational training in a commercial or administrative field
- Very good knowledge:
- in project management
- of communication and presentation techniques
- of the German and English language, spoken and written
- Good knowledge of:
- MS-Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- content management systems used at the JGU (WordPress and OpenText)
- newsletter creation tools, e.g. CleverReach
- The following are advantageous:
- Knowledgeof the relevant public budgeting and accounting regulations
- Knowledge of the structure of our university (Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz), its division of responsibilities and administrative processes
- Knowledge of financial management regulations as well as budget planning and allocation of funds

The position is paid according to EG 9a TV-L and to be filled by 11/1/2026. The position is limited to a period of three years, with the possibility of extension.
